To what it Forms

Pilar Cotter

To what it Forms

Pilar Cotter's work is part of the contemporary jewellery scene, but it is also part of the fluid, mixed-race universe of contemporary art, in which the new creative dynamics are today blurring the limits and boundaries between different disciplines. Her jewellery, without renouncing the function of situating the body as an addressee, or precisely because of this, is situated on the plane of meaning. It is a work with a transformative will that provides a speculative content that overcomes the limitations of the traditional dualism between arts and crafts.

Her work is born in a long process made of repetitions and rehearsals, in an evolution of decisions to select or eliminate, in an attempt to unveil and materialise something indefinable, like an interior design born of intuition, to become a testimony of her conscience. A creative process in which each gesture is charged with a profound wisdom that allows her to construct a plastic discourse based on a recognisable archive of our collective formal imaginary to create a story that aims to be an aesthetic, formative and memorable experience.

When we look closely at her jewellery-objects, we are led to recognise how the small dimension allows us to appreciate more precisely each one of the small details of her process. The meticulous search for precision with subtle textures, pressures and deformations on the porcelain or the delicate laces of the metal place us in an intimate universe in which the preciousness is charged with eloquent meaning.

The works in this exhibition are conceived as a fluid set of objects that form a coherent whole, interrelated and in dialogue with each other, proposing the possibility of multiple and open readings, but also as jewels that, when moved on the user, introduce new dynamics, shifting this dialogue between a single form and the body, demanding a physical, emotional and comprehensive involvement of the user, acquiring a new and unexpected dimension and inviting us to initiate the ritual of the gaze, becoming a personalising element of complicity between the artist and the bearer.
